Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, your guide will warmly welcome you as you exit the arrival hall. Take the day easy to acclimatize to the altitude while driving to the capital, Thimphu. Check into your hotel and enjoy your first taste of authentic Bhutanese cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the National Memorial Chorten, built in honor of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Then explore Thimphu Dzong, the largest fortress-monastery in Bhutan and the seat of the King’s office.

Visit Paro Dzong, also known as Rinpung Dzong, a 15th-century fortress and monastery that serves as the administrative center of Paro. Then take a morning drive north of the valley to the ruins of Drukgyal Dzong, built in 1647 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Though now in ruins due to fire, it remains a powerful symbol of Bhutan’s history. Spend the day exploring these historic landmarks and enjoying the scenic surroundings.
